My teacher Sue Frederick explained that 2020, as a 22 year in numerology, has been a year that was all about getting us to transform. And WOW did we! Haven’t we transformed so many things in our lives? Our work environment, our social lives, our interpersonal relationships, our spiritual practices – so much was transformed for so many of us in this tumultuous year that we are leaving behind. For me personally, 2020 was a good year, but I know that this was not the case for many people. So many of us experienced the death of a loved one in 2020, or illness, lack of employment, decreased finances, lack of social interaction, depression, homelessness, and more. We will all be happy to put this calendar year behind us, I am sure. And while everything won’t change in an instant, we know that, perhaps slowly, life will return to some sort of normalcy, back to life as we knew it pre-2020.
As we look to 2021, please know that this coming 5 year is one of expansion, adventure, expecting the unexpected. This will be a turning point year, we will have much freedom to explore, so you are advised to make room for new practices and focus on adapting to positive change. I encourage you to step into 2021 consciously – with awareness of what your Intentions are, awareness of who you want to be one year from now– how you want to act, how you want to live.
Rather than make New Year resolutions that will probably melt away in a couple of weeks or months and leave you feeling like a failure, set your mind and your heart on establishing your Intentions for the next 12 months. Do you notice how even those two words themselves, Intentions vs. resolutions, carry different energetic patterns? Intentions come from a higher vibration. Our Intentions remind us of the kind of person we want to be, and the kind of life we want to live. They allow us to be mindful of our full potential and they give us space to focus on our journey.
So BE mindful. Meditate, my friends! Meditation will bring expanded awareness more than any other spiritual tool I know of. Master Co says that Awareness brings the subconscious to the conscious. I love that, because this is exactly why I always talk about conscious living, conscious grieving, conscious healing. By expanding our awareness, we can remember all of the gifts that we brought to this lifetime, we can remember who we are, we can remember our true selves.
One of my Intentions for 2021 is to step more fully into my true self. As I write these words, a Christmas ornament with the word JOY written on it, just fell from my tree. Haha! YES, thank you for the reminder Bryan! When we expand our awareness and become conscious in all we do and think and feel, we find JOY again.
Follow these eight simple steps to identify what your intentions are:
- Define your deepest values.
- Connect with your inner joy – what brings you the most happiness, satisfaction and energy? What brings you passion? What fires you up?
- Listen to your inner voice, it knows your truth!
- Write out your intentions on paper. Identify the small or big changes that you can make to help you reach your intended goals.
- Create a word or a short phrase that sums up your Intentions. My words that summarize my Intentions this coming year are Empower, Expansion, Inspire and Connect.
- Now, let it go! Don’t hold on too tightly. Just like when we look at auras, loosen your gaze and you will see. Loosen your grip on your Intention words and you will be led in the right direction.
- Trust! Trust that your Higher Power, your Divine Source, and your loved ones in Spirit will orchestrate your success.
- Listen! Your job is to listen, to discern, and to say YES to the opportunities that will come your way.
It is helpful to repeat your intention words or phrases daily in your meditations. When you meditate, begin to imagine yourself with the things you desire, your intentions. Start to focus in on how you feel. How would you feel if you received that new job, or that big promotion? Or if you met your life partner? Of if you established deep, consistent communications with your loved ones in Spirit? How would it feel to your body? How would you carry yourself? What emotions would you experience? Who is surrounding you to support you? Allow your awareness to expand with these energies. Let yourself go in that energy – SEE the joy you will create.
I ask you to script your life. Create what you want with mindfulness, intention, and awareness. Try to feel OUTSIDE of your pain and feel INTO this new life/being/experiences that you desire. What is the greater vision you have for yourself? Feel into that…and then memorize that feeling! Once you know what it feels like, you can call it up whenever you like as you travel through your year. It’s time to move OUT of our pain. Are you ready to live a full, purposeful, aware life? Setting your Intentions is the first step.
